Why are major depressives so indecisive? I believe, from personal experience, that they wish to avoid regret. Don’t we all? But in the major depressives case, they know that any decision they make will inevitably lead to regret. How can they possibly know this? It is simply because every decision they have ever made in their entire lives has been the repeated subject of second-guessing and various degrees of gut-wrenching regret. This is true even of decisions that a normal healthy person might be “proud” of.
When you try to force a major depressive to make a decision, be prepared for a negative reaction. You are causing them pain. Because, in the end, even refusing to make a decision is a regret-inducing decision as well. [Proverbs 3:5 ]
